Jungle Releases in One Week

One week, readers. One. Week!

We are one week away from the release of my biggest book ever, and the sequel to Colony. It’s almost here. All you readers are about to get your hands on Jungle. Are you ready?

You should be. Jungle sees the return of Jake, Anna, and Sweets after their mission to Pisces. You know, the one where everything went crazy? Well, certain folks back on Earth aren’t too happy with how the trio handled things. Not happy at all.

You can pre-order Jungle now to make sure you’ve got your copy right as they start releasing next Tuesday. Just click that cover! But if you’ve already secured your copy, hit the jump past the cover and synopsis for another early preview!

Jake, Anna, and Sweets are back in the long-awaited sequel to Colony!

Fresh off their mission to Pisces, the trio is looking forward to a well-deserved rest, and better yet, a fat paycheck after everything that occurred on the alien world. But all that comes to a crashing halt when they’re waylaid above Earth by their employer and find themselves with an extended contract, sending them right back out into space.

Worse yet, their trio has been split to best handle their new assignments. Jake and Anna find themselves attached to a scientific expedition, tasked as security escorts keeping the expedition safe as they investigate a new potential colony world thriving with a vast, vibrant jungle. Meanwhile, Sweets has been assigned aboard an UNSEC military vessel, tracking down the source of a pervasive cyberattack against their hardware.

But as both teams get to work, it’s clear that there may be more to their respective missions than they were led to believe. The cyberattacks are brazen and powerful, but simplistic and utterly untraceable. The alien world’s ecology defies logic and sense, puzzling the expedition team.

And above it all, the ripples of events on Pisces continue to spread through the galaxy …

Hit the jump for a third and final preview!

Jungle Preview!

That’s right, this week there will be no Being a Better Writer post. Just this week. It’ll be back next week. Why? Well, I could say it’s because I missed a holiday I could have taken off a while back and leave it at that, but that’s not the answer. I miss a lot of holiday’s anyway.

No, the real answer is that I’m just swamped. Impressively so. I’ve got a release window picked for Jungle that I’m working hard to hit … and on top of that, my part-time job has asked for double the normal number of shifts this week because we’re ridiculously understaffed and the bean-counters that deal with the budget can’t count (long story). On the one hand, this makes up for the three-weeks where they cut everyone lose with no warning (and then were surprised when a lot of people never came back), but on the other this just makes my crunch time all the more crunched. Depending on how work on Jungle goes, I may have to skip one of those shifts.

But enough of modern corporate dystopia, let’s talk future corporate dystopia. Instead of Being a Better Writer, how about I give you all a preview chapter from Jungle? After all, with the release window (November, in case you forgot) drawing closer and closer, why not drum up a little anticipation?

And no, the cover in the article image isn’t the final, but the WIP. Still deciding on a few bits of positioning. The image and color are the same as the WIP. Green, where Colony was blue. Is this significant in any way? Well, with a name like Jungle I’ll let you be the judge.

Also, this won’t be the last preview you’ll be seeing. Patreon Supporters saw this excerpt on Saturday, and today they’ll get another, while you guys will get that bit later this week (and accordingly, Patreon supporters a bit more). So keep checking back as the Jungle news grows! We’ve got a final cover reveal, more previews, release date and pre-order … all that is coming! Plus, to go with the launch, a new site color and theme (you can probably guess what it’ll be modeled after, though I’ll miss the Wild-West vibe).

Anyway, on to the preview! Hit the jump!

Shadow of an Empire Preview

Shadow of an Empire is a new novel set in the world of Indrim, where steam-industrialization combines with magic to forge an empire that spans a continent. Salitore Amazd is an adjudicator, a legally-approved roving arbitrator of law wandering the Indrim Empire’s Outlands keeping the peace. When a trainload of full of dangerous prisoners bound for the worst prison in the Indrim Empire escapes in his territory and announces an intention to lead the Outlands in a revolution against the rest of the empire, and implicates Salitore as an accomplice, Amazd is forced to join forces with a member of the Imperial Inquisitors to try and clear his name.

Right, I need a better back copy than that, but this is spur-of-the-moment. Anyway, enjoy a free preview of Chapter 1 from the Beta for Shadow of an Empire! Coming this Spring!

As you might guess, everything you’re about to read is owned in its entirety by me, Max Florschutz.
